About a month ago we were taking Coco and Bubbles to the dog beach in OB and Bubbles had her front feet on the middle arm rest in the front and her hind legs on the back seat. And I'm not sure if she slipped or it Coco bumped her, but Bubbles fell on the floor board of the car. She let out a yipe when she hit, but that was it. Then she got right back onto the back seat. But when we got to the beach she was trying real hard not to walk on her back legs. I thought that something wasn't right. But Jimmy thought that maybe she had a charlie horse or something. Then once we got home so went straight to her bed and she didn't want to get up.
So we took her into PetSmart cause they have a vet clinic that is open on the weekends. Well they were so busy that we couldn't get in. So on Monday Jimmy took her to the vet on base.
And it turns out that Bubbles was born with a disease that is called luxating patella. Which is were her knee caps "pop" out of place. Sometimes the dog can just "pop" their knee caps back in place on their own. There are 4 stages of luxating patella, and Bubbles was a stage 3. Which meant that she couldn't "pop" her knee caps back into to place. Our only option was surgery. And surgery here in San Diego for both her back legs would be 4,000. We just didn't have the money for that. I didn't know what to do, I cried and cried. I didn't want to put my dog down. So my dad had a idea to try and see if in Idaho the surgery would be cheaper. And it was! We paid close to 1,000 for both her legs.
So my wonderful husband drove Bubbles up to Idaho so she could get her surgery. He stayed up there for 2 weeks until she was done with both legs, and was able to come home. She is healing just fine. We try and get her out to the park so she can get some excise and will start using both her back legs. Sometimes I think she gets sore. But she is doing good, and is happy to be back home.
